Stone of Hope

The Martin Luther King Memorial Opens to the public today with the official dedication on Sunday.

The MLK Memorial is the first on the National Mall that honors an African American and the first that honors a person who did not serve as president. The sculpture is named from a line in Dr. King's "I Have A Dream" speech:

          "With this faith we will be able to hew out of a mountain of despair

 a stone of new hope."
